Straight Shooter

TESTIMONIALS

What do Hollywood Legends, Kings and Queens from around the world have in common with real-life heroes like Astronauts, Cosmonauts, Texas Rangers, SWAT Teams and the US Marines???

They have all crossed paths with Joe Bowman.

Joe Bowman is a slice of "The Old West" come to life - a fast drawing, Straight Shootin', larger-than life Texas, who is one of the best men around anywhere with a gun.

"When the Legend is bigger than the man, print the Legend; when the Legend and the Man parallel, it's all the same."

Joe received a Combat Infantry Badge, four Battle Stars, Bronze Stars, the Purple Heart, was twice nominated for "The American Outstanding Handgunner Award," and carries a special Texas Ranger Badge presented by a Governor of Texas. He has been appointed "Ambassador of Goodwill" for the State of Texas by four different Governors.

And the List Goes On.

Joe has been on longhorn cattle drives and served as gun coach for movie and television westerns. After making boots for Roy Rogers, Roy commissioned him to make two difference pairs of his famous "Boots of Roses," with sterling silver and gold trim. These boots are now in the Roy Rogers Museum in Victorville, CA. He's made gun leather for Johnny Mack Brown, Jock Mahoney (a famous actor, stuntman and personal friend) and for Sammy Davis Jr. Sammy bought two of Joe's famous customized Ruger Single Action pistols. Robert Duvall engaged Joe's shooting and western knowledge for his renown role as "Gus" in "Lonesome Dove."

And the List Goes On.

Mr. Bill Ruger, Sr., had his son, Tom, contact Joe to request that he do a highly acclaimed Nations Safely Television announcement for the Ruger Single Action Six Shooter. Joe has found the Ruger pistols to be the strongest, safest and the most reliable pistol in the market place.

John Wayne Enterprises

March 22, 1983

Dear Joe:

On behalf of the entire Wayne family, thank you for the wonderful show you put on at the Anniversary Celebrations of the Winchester - U.S. Repeating Arms Company on July 30, 1982.

As a token of our appreciation and because of your long association with the Wayne family, please accept this Bronze Medal minted by the US Mint, which is an exact replica of the Special Congressional Gold Medal award to my father by congress on March 6, 1980. Since 1776 only 83 Americans have been so honored by their country, including George Washington, Abraham Lincoln, Thomas Edison, and Charles Lindbergh - distinguished company indeed for John Wayne; and, as his family, we are very proud of this award and thought you might enjoy having one.

Also, please let this letter serve as our official written certification that this medal came from the Wayne family's personal inventory of Bronze Medals.

Sincerely,
Michael A. Wayne

Investigations

January 31, 1994

In the mid 70's I was chosen to serve on the Houston Police Department's first "Special Weapons and Tactics Team" (SWAT). We were trained by members of the Federal Bureau of Investigations SWAT Team. The training was long and strenuous.

Shortly after we completed the FBI course, one day there appeared a tall man wearing a big hat and fancy boots. It was as if he had just stepped out of a Roy Rogers movie with his two single action colts and the only things missing being a yellow horse and a guitar. He was introduced to us as Joe Bowman and that Mr. Bowman was going to teach us to shoot.

Well, first I had been shooting all my life; second, my skills had been honed by the United States Marine Corps where I shot "expert" with a rifle and pistol; third, my skills had been super honed by the Houston Police Department, therefore, my mind immediately slammed shut like a steel door as to this man being able to teach me anything about shooting. I remember the entire team joking about, "He is going to teach us to do what?"

Well, as life situations will have it--this was an assignment not a volunteer program and we all went into it very skeptical--sure enough, it got worse! Mr. Bowman showed up at our first lesson and issued each of us a Red Ryder BB Gun with no sights! Oh, well it kind of went with the boots.

However, it didn't take long for Joe to get and hold our attention. The BB Guns with no sights gave us all a tough time but with Joe's instructions, we were soon hitting toothpicks stuck in the ground--think about it! I still have a penny, quarter and a dime that, with Joe's instructions and my Red Ryder BB Gun with no sights, were hit in the air.

We are now in the 90's and I am 47 years old. This course was the best course I have ever taken and Joe's type of instructions made me an even more accurate and confident shooter. Believe me, as your eyes get to the point where they make you decide between sights and target, well, you just can't survive unless you know this shooting technique. You can't find a better instructor than Joe Bowman, therefore, the best advice I can offer is: "Don't focus on the boots!"

With speed and accuracy acclaimed,

Robert S. Lobue, Sr.

The Dow Chemical Company

January 8, 2001

Joe,

I would like to express my most sincere appreciation for your shooting exhibition and entertainment for our group at the Dow Reservoir. My business within the Dow Chemical Company has production facilities all over the world. We had the leaders, some folks call them managers, from each of our major sites. There were participants in your audience from Canada, Brazil, China, Germany (both East and West), Holland, Louisiana, and even some of us Texas boys were there. Your performance was such a hit, they are still talking about it, even though it was last September.

The leader of our business is from Germany, and he is also a student of the American West with a pretty heavy emphasis on our older movies. He knows many of our Old West movie stars' names and has watched most of their movies. He was most impressed!!

Your final card trick immediately after dinner still has the two from Plaquemine, LA talking! They are convinced it cannot be done! I have started asking them if they are going to believe their lying eyes again. Great trick! They loved it!

Joe, this can get pretty long winded, and I wouldn't want to do that. But, you have left an impression on some folks that they will remember forever. The single participant from China told me that he had only seen hand guns like we take for granted in museums. I truly believe that what you do has and will continue to help people in the world understand that guns are not bad. With this singular result, all of your work and influence on others receives my utmost respect. Thank you, Joe.

Your respectful friend,

Walter H. Hailey
